Play Hardball这个词组和棒球有关。hardball是硬式棒球，打起来很激烈，不小心还会受伤，所以play hardball引申为“不客气”、“强度强硬”等意思。反之，软式棒球（即垒球）叫做softball，速度慢，球体 比较大而软，被击中也不容易受伤，所以play softball的意思就是“手下留情”、“一团和气”。softball和hardball都可以当形容词用。例如: A softball question就是“比较客气、不尖锐的问题”。

我们都知道“Label”这个词常用的它的名词意思：标签，动词则是打标签。首先，我们先理解下标签的原始意义：被做了标记以便于分类和识别。当某种东西被打上标签， 则表明它的重要性和价值多少；而给某个人打标签， 是因为我们“See someone as…”，即：我们根据这个人所表现出的性格特质对TA进行了归类，比如：给人授予某个称谓及头衔。
与“Label”意思非常相近的一个英文词叫“Tag”，它也有标签这层含义，不过经常被广泛使用于计算机和互联网。如互联网相关的话题(Hashtag)、计算机程序元标记（Meta tag）等。与“Label”经常打照面的一个词叫“identity”，它的意思是（标识、身份），相信大家知道身份证的英文译名是：identification，它就是用来将我们打上标签，以方便识别的。
