对比(antithesis)、也被称作对照、映衬、对偶（需满足字数相等、结构相同、意义对称），是英语中普遍使用的一种修辞手法。所谓对比，是指两种不同的事物或同一事物的两个不同方面的相互比较。这种比较能使事物的特征、性质、状态更加突出，语言色彩更加鲜明，语义作用更为加强。对比句有很多案例因为脍炙人口、对比工整再加上很多句子寓意深刻、激发共鸣，于是得到了广泛引用和千古流传。
Antithesis is the term used to refer to an author’s use of two opposite terms in a sentence for effect. The two terms are set near each other to enhance or highlight the contrast in opposite meaning.
Antithesis most commonly appears in literary works, the two characters which form this rhetorical device are shown as opposites in order to highlight the good qualities of one and the evil qualities of the other.
